Granada: April 2025
During April into May 2025, I was privileged to return to my home country for a global health elective. I spent my time at a local pediatric clinic in St. George, Grenada with Dr. Yonni Belfon. I also had the opportunity to supervise and precept term 4 and 5 medical students of St. George’s University SOM at a pediatric health fair in the local community. We provided free consultation and screening for children from underserved neighborhoods who lacked access to affordable healthcare.
This experience deepened my understanding of the systemic challenges faced by both patients and providers in Grenada. It strengthened my commitment to addressing these gaps through education, advocacy, and continued donation of my time and resources. I also gained practical skills in improvising care with limited resources, vital for disaster preparedness and field medicine.
As part of my ongoing quality improvement project, I performed and analyzed immunization questionnaire, creating a space for open dialogue with parents about immunizations in Grenada. I concluded the rotation by donating essential medical supplies such as protective equipment (PPE), wound care etc., which were gratefully received by the clinic staff.
