Honduras: January 2026

During our recent medical brigade trip to Honduras, we had the opportunity to work in the Intibucá region and learn more about the local health systems and barriers faced by rural communities in accessing care. Our team collaborated with local providers to gain a deeper understanding about the structure of healthcare delivery, resource limitations, and the ways in which community health workers support ongoing patient needs. We traveled to several remote villages to run day clinics, where we evaluated and managed a wide range of conditions. A significant portion of our care focused on chronic disease management, including hypertension and diabetes, where we reviewed medications as well as dietary and lifestyle counseling. We also saw many pediatric patients, addressing acute infections, growth and nutrition concerns, and preventive care needs. In addition, we participated in musculoskeletal care, including performing joint injections and reviewing stretches and other exercises for patients with osteoarthritis and other chronic pain conditions. Finally, we made recommendations for follow up care with local providers and community health workers to promote follow through with care once the brigade left.
